A rectangle has the width of 44 centimeters and a perimeter of 188 centimeters? what is the rectangles length?

                     ANSWER:

You already know that if  L  is the length of the rectangle and  W  its width then its Perimeter is given by :

P = 2( L + W ) ......................( 1 )

Now : W = 44  and  P = 188 according to your given.

Substituting these values in ( 1 ) :

188 = 2( L + 44 )

188 = 2L + 2(44)

188 = 2L + 88

188 - 88 = 2L

i.e , 2L = 100  Dividing both sides by 2 :

L = 50 cm

Checking :

W = 44 and L = 50  :

P = 2 ( L + W ) = 2 ( 50 + 44 ) = 2 ( 94 ) = 188
