A parade is one mile
in length and is going to march a distance of one mile. An officer
is alongside of the leader on his motorcycle and at the same time
the parade begins to move forward, the officer begins to move
backwards, encircling the parade and both he and the parade leader,
arrive at the one mile distant point at the same time.
Question: how far did the officer travel? It is assumed that the
officer and the parade both moved at a steady pace, both starting
and arriving at the same time.
This is all the information deemed necessary for a solution
